Sonical to trial the manufacture of its first personal hearing product at Sony UK TEC in Wales

Sonical, the developer of CosmOS, the operating system for the ear, has confirmed that its first personal hearing product, Remora, will undergo trial manufacturing at Sony UK Technology Centre Limited (Sony UK TEC) in Pencoed, Wales.

Remora represents the first hardware product to bring its CosmOS platform to market. The collaboration with Sony UK TEC underscores Sonical’s commitment to high-quality, sustainable, and local manufacturing as part of initial stages in bringing the next generation of audio and hearing technology to market.

“We’re proud to be supporting Sonical in the trial manufacturing of their Remora product,” said Ian Worgan, general manager of business development and supply Chain, Sony UK Technology Centre Limited.

Our goal is to make Sonical the Raspberry Pi for your hearing.

“Sony UK TEC has a strong track record of helping innovative technology companies bring their products to market through our advanced manufacturing capabilities and highly skilled workforce here in Wales.”

Remora combines Sonical’s dual connectivity of Bluetooth and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology with its proprietary CosmOS software platform. CosmOS transforms headphones and hearables into configurable, upgradeable audio devices, enabling end users to continually enhance and personalise their experience as new software plugins and applications are released. This architecture ensures that Remora evolves over time, unlocking new features, functions, and sound experiences – all controlled by the user.

Compatible with all existing wired headphones, Remora extends the benefits of the CosmOS ecosystem to millions of listeners worldwide, offering lossless, low-latency, multi-channel audio and app-based hearing customisation through an open, developer-driven platform.

This is a major step towards making our technology accessible to everyone.

“Our goal is to make Sonical the Raspberry Pi for your hearing,” said Gary Spittle, founder and CEO, Sonical.

“By choosing to begin our trial manufacturing at Sony UK TEC, we’re not only ensuring exceptional quality, but also signalling our intent to scale – delivering advanced hearing and audio experiences that empower people in every sector, from entertainment to healthcare. This is a major step towards making our technology accessible to everyone.”

The trial builds at Sony UK TEC are part of a carefully planned process aimed at refining product and gathering market insights, which will guide Sonical’s future steps towards scaling production.
