Sam Fender and Olivia Dean’s track Rein Me In has spent the most consecutive weeks in the top 40 before reaching number one.
The track’s 35-week ascent to number one has surpassed Ed Sheeran’s 19-week climb with Thinking Out Loud in 2014. Rein Me In spent 18 weeks in the top 10, 34 weeks in the top 20 and became Fender’s first ever global number one single when it reached the top of the Irish charts in February. It has also broken the Australian top 10 for the first time at number six.
The Platinum-certified single was created in a collaboration with PLG’s Polydor Records (Fender) and Capitol UK (Dean), bridging the two major campaigns while resonating with both artists' audiences.
“The slow burn rise of Rein Me In has been deeply satisfying to watch,” said Ben Mortimer, president at Polydor Label Group. “From the moment the song had its live debut at London Stadium last summer, it was clear it had real magic about it. But it’s simply taken a life of its own in the last few weeks. Its success is a testament to the quality of the song, and the wonderful performances by both Sam and Olivia.”
Dean jointly leads this year’s BRIT Awards nominations, having been nominated for five ahead of her performance at the Manchester ceremony, alongside having been honoured with the GRAMMY award for Best New Artist earlier this year. Her platinum-certified album The Art of Loving debuted at number one, securing a chart double alongside her single Man I Need. She also became the first female solo artist to place four songs simultaneously in the UK Top 10.
Fender was awarded a Mercury Prize last year, and earlier this year broke 10 million monthly Spotify listeners for the first time. His album People Watching became the fastest-selling album by a UK act in 2025, outselling the rest of the Top 10 combined in its first week. Within 12 months of its release, the record was certified Platinum, earned Fender four BRIT award nominations and delivered four UK top 20 singles.
For PLG, Rein Me In becomes its first UK number one single of 2026. Across the year, PLG holds three BRIT nominations for Artist of the Year and four Song of the Year nods. In 2025, PLG spent 12 weeks at number one on the Albums Chart and nine weeks at number one on the Singles Chart.
